Meet Tom Capen
Meet Tom Capen of the F/V Eleanor Marie out of Port San Luis/Avila Beach. Tom used to watch the dory fleet out of Newport California as a kid and realized that he could make a living doing something like that. First, he received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Tom's main fisheries are Rock crab and Dungeness crab. Over the years, he has also fished for salmon, albacore and White sea bass. While fishing regulations have not impacted the crab fisheries too badly, Tom has taken to fishing Black cod.
Tom and his wife Renee have two boys and have been married for 18 years. When Tom is not on the ocean or on the road shipping his product, he can be found whacking a handball around at the San Luis Obispo YMCA.
Look for Tom's crab at Pete's Pier Side and Olde Port Fish in Avila Beach, Quality Seafood in Redondo Beach, LA Fish in San Pedro and Ocean World in El Monte. Tom also sells to Central Coast Seafood in Atascadero.
