Bob and Doris Carraher are one of the many husband and wife teams that fish California's coast on their F/V Happy Trails. Bob comes from a fishing family. His dad was a tuna fisherman out of San Diego. Doris started fishing with Bob when she told him he could not go into a partnership with a neighbor, she wanted to be his partner.
Bob and Doris have fished for Dungeness crab and California king salmon for over 30 years, and considering they have been married for 47 it looks like they have formed a solid partnership.
While Bob loves the ocean and fishing, Doris fishes because she can be with her husband and "not be at home doing the domestic thing all the time." Don’t let that fool you, judging by the number of recipes that bear Doris's name in the Best of Bodega Bay Cookbook, she does the domestic thing quite well.
Both Bob and Doris stay active when they are not out fishing. Bob is a member of the California Salmon Council, and with the council's input fishermen will be weathering the storm caused by the 2008 Salmon season closure. Bob is also on the Board of Directors of the Fishermen's Marketing Association of Bodega Bay. Doris is active with the Bodega Bay's Auxiliary for Fisheries.
