Meet Carlos Codorniz

Carlos Codorniz has fishing in his blood. In the “old country”, the Azores Islands he grew up in a fishing family. At the tender age of 12 his father ordered him to start fishing.

Him and Carlos’ brothers had to help support the family. Carlos has been fishing ever since.

Now he fishes out of Port San Luis/Avila California. Like many others, he is worried about the future of the industry, “with such restrictions how are the younger set going to be attracted to fishing?” In the old days Carlos fished for bottom fish, today he fishes California King Salmon to supplement his social security.

Carlos and his wife have been married 47 years and raised three sons, one of who runs the haul out facility in Port San Luis.

When you are in Port San Luis look for the F/V Doris and ask for Carlos’ fish at Old Port Seafood at the end of the pier.
