
John and Jeff French are second generation fishermen who have fished as a team for over 25 years.
Around the waterfront they are know as “the boys” a reminder of a by gone day when they fished with their dad Al French.
They grew up in the Morro Bay area and fondly recall following their dad up the coast in the summer and their mom Margaret with a truck and trailer, as did their sister Ilene.
John and Jeff grew up helping their dad build lobster traps. John and Jeff have traditionally fished for Rock crab, Dungeness crab, Albacore and Salmon. They have also fished salmon with family friends in the Alaskan gill net fishery.
Their salmon boat the F/V Langosta II ties up below Giovanni's Fish Market on the Embarcadero. The crab boat F/V Nadine is moored in Port San Luis.
John has a degree in Engineering from UC Santa Barbara. In 1984, he married his wife Sandy in Alaska. They have a son, Ryan who is a in his first year at Cuesta College. Ryan also loves fishing and is often seen around the Morro Bay waterfront where he works unloading boats. In his spare time John enjoys surfing.
Jeff studied Ornamental Horticulture and Crop Science at Cal Poly, San Luis Obipso. He planted the family's avocado orchard as his senior project. Jeff and his wife Lori also married in 1984. They have two sons; Lorrin a sophomore at Washington State University and Drew, a junior at Morro Bay High School. In his spare time he plays basketball in a number of different leagues.
