Tom Hafer is right in the trenches when it comes to all the new regulations that have taken place in California. He has been a voice for other fishermen and himself, attending any and every meeting anywhere, anytime. He has help conduct research trips with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to “count fish.” The new Marine Protected Areas have drastically hurt his live fish and live spot prawn business. He has lost over 80% of his catch as his best fishing areas are now in protected areas. But despite this heavy blow, Tom will continue to fish, seeking out new areas.
Tom and his wife Sheri have been married 20 years and have three children. His two boys are interested in following in their dad’s footsteps. He is passing on his sense of freedom and accomplishment when he fishes with his children.
Tom sells his live product to Kingfisher in Los Angeles.
