Mike Hudson got started fishing commercially after he found sport fishing was becoming too expensive. He bought a boat and has been at it ever since. He is the president of the Small Boat Commercial Salmon Fishermen’s Association www.sbcsfa.com, a director of the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations www.pcffa.org, and as of recently producer of the upcoming SalmonAid Festival.
According to Mike, the low point in his fishing career was the day he came in with 1200 pounds of King Salmon and the buyers offered him 69 cents a pound. The fish went home with Mike and he and his wife Yvette filleted them out in their driveway and had a “Salmon Garage Sale”. But that day had a silver lining, it was the birth of Hudson Fish Company. These days the Hudsons fillet their catch in their very own health department approved facility.
Mike and his wife Yvette sell their fresh fish at the Berkeley, El Cerrito & Kensington Farmers Markets.
