Behind the slow Texan drawl is a third generation fisherman of the highest caliber.
David Kubiak has been fishing since the age of eleven. After he finished school, there was no doubt that he was going to become a fisherman. “Fishing is not a love, it’s my life.” David’s first trip through the Panama Canal was at the age of fifteen when his dad, Don brought their gulf shrimper the F/V David and Chris to California to join the rest of the family. David has fished for Pink Shrimp, Rockcod, Dover sole, and Spot prawns.
Due to ever increasing regulations the F/V Skagerakak had been retired and David purchased a new boat and renamed it the F/V Axel, after his grandfather. As one whose business has been drastically altered, “Protecting our resources is a good thing-however over regulation defeats the purpose. It’s opened the door for imported fish which is out of unregulated waters.” He is now fishing for Premium King Salmon and Dungeness Crab. David’s fish is now featured at Rose’s Landing Restaurant in Morro Bay.
When he is home, David and his wife Paige are raising two teenage children, Taliah and Gunnar. Gunnar is interested in carrying on the family fishing tradition. David tries to relax by riding motorcycles with his son and reading historical books.
