Joe Nungaray of the F/V Michael Too in Morro Bay doesn't know what got him started fishing, he just knows he has wanted to fish for as long as he can remember. Like many others before him, Joe loves the life fishing affords him- being on the ocean and producing a source of food for those who can't fish for themselves.
Over the years Joe has fished for halibut and sea bass, but the methods used for those fisheries have been regulated out. Now Joe fishes for salmon, crab and rock fish. Limited entry has drastically cut into his ability to make a living.
Joe spends much of his free time writing letters on behalf of commercial fishermen everywhere. Joe also stays current on all regulatory issues and is a valuable source of information for fishermen.
Joe and his wife Jackie have been married for 29 years and have one daughter.
